1. Magnetic Fields around Permanent Magnets

We start this section with a brief recap of permanent magnets and the field lines between their poles. Please note in this video I showed the North end in blue: by convention this is usually shown in red.


2. Magnetic Fields around Wires and Electromagnets

When a current flows in a wire an associated magnetic field is produced - you can use your right hand to help you recall the direction of the field. Building up these field lines from multiple wires, like in a coil or solenoid, allows you to understand the field pattern around an electromagnet.
