Digital Communications

Used everyday by all of us.

Anchor 1

1. Binary, Bits and Bytes

'Normal' numbers we use everyday are decimal numbers to base ten. Binary numbers are slightly different as they just use 1s and 0s. This means they are great for digital communication.

Anchor 2

2. Image Processing

An image is made up on many picture elements. The value of each of these pixels can be changed to increase the brightness of the image, to alter the contrast, detect noise and for edge detecting.

3. Digital Communications

Analogue signals can have any value, but when transmitted over long distances the signal degrades and cannot easily be reconstructed. Sending it digitally, with a stream of 1s and 0s, allows for a much higher quality form of communication.
